Assisting Program

Veterinary Assisting Academy
Pawsitive Action Foundation and our Medical
Director, Dr. Matt Walter DVM are working in
conjunction with the Harmony High School Veterinary
Assisting Program.
The program's goal is to prepare students for
certification as a Veterinary Assistant and to provide
a good foundation to those interested in Veterinary
and or medical careers.

The program has outstanding facilities including:
indoor cat and dog kennels as well as large-dog
outdoor kennels. The animal lab is equipped with
three bathing tubs, nine grooming tables, a wet lab
and a fully functional surgery room. With Dr. Walter's
expertise and other DVM's the students have the
opportunity to be directly involved in pre and post
surgical procedures through the Veterinary care and
spay/neuter program. This brings the classroom
learning to life and gives students the skills and
experience needed to further their education.
Surgical procedures are only performed by licensed
Veterinarians.

Dr. Mat Walter, DVM has been in private practice for
over 10 years. Dr. Walter has been contracted by
Osceola Animal Control for over six years and has
conducted 1,500 to 2,000 spay/neuters per year. All of
our DVM's are licensed and insured.

The Vet Assisting program at Harmony High School is
a unique program, being the only high school with a
fully functional operating room capable of hosting
surgeries, under the direction of a licensed
Veterinarian, within the state of Florida. The program
offers the students the opportunity to test for FVMA
certification at the end of their four year Vet
Assisting program.

Pawsitive Action and Genesis Assistance Dogs, Inc.
raise or rescue dogs, care for and train them for 2
years before they are placed with persons with
disabilities. Our community is very proud of all our
dogs, volunteers and recipients of our trained dogs.

Assistance Dogs (in training) are a critical part of
this program. The dogs are transported every
Tuesday and Thursday. Veterinary services are
offered at cost to the Assistance Dogs and the
students have the opportunity to learn to train and
care for these special dogs.
Your donations help pay for the veterinary services,
such as, vaccinations, spays, neuters etc. the dogs
may require.

trainers, volunteers and high school students are
preparing several dogs to become Assistance Dogs
for those who have served our county, providing
freedom for all Americans.
If you are a Veteran and wish to learn how to
train dogs to be given to other Veterans please
